Uss Iwo Jima

• The first Iwo Jima (CV-46) was to be a Ticonderoga-class aircraft carrier, but construction was cancelled in August 1945.

• The second Iwo Jima (LPH-2) was the first purpose-built amphibious assault ship in the Navy. The lead ship in her class, she served from 1961 to 1993.

• The third Iwo Jima (LHD-7) is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship. She was commissioned in 2001 and on active service as of 2004.
