Uep Subang JayaUEP Subang Jaya (often referred to by its initials 'USJ' by locals) is a major residential township in the Klang Valley, adjacent to its older and smaller twin township of Subang Jaya. USJ covers an area of 1,012 hectares, and has a population of over 150,000. History USJ is a planned community developed by Sime UEP Berhad, a property developer controlled by Malaysian conglomerate Sime Darby Berhad. The site was formerly Seafield Estate, an oil palm plantation. Construction began in 1988, after the completion of Subang Jaya. Apart from a few small parcels of land, the development of USJ is almost completed. In 1997, local authority was transferred from the Majlis Daerah Petaling (MDP) (Petaling District Council) to the newly created Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) (Subang Jaya Municipal Council). The headquarters of the MPSJ is located in USJ. Sime UEP recently received an accolade from the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) Malaysian Chapter's Award of Distinction 2000 in the "Best Residential Development" category for the development of USJ. Amenities and Accessibility USJ is now a maturing township well-provided with amenities. The township has several schools, a college, places of worship, a stadium and vibrant centres of commerce. The Taipan is the township's central business area and is famous throughout the Klang Valley for its variety of food outlets. There are numerous restaurants serving fast food, Western, Malay, Indian and Chinese cuisine. The Taipan even boasts a branch of the famous Kajang satay. USJ also has a shopping mall, the Summit Square and local hypermarket chain Giant has a branch in the north-eastern part of the township. The township is well-served by a network of highways, namely the Federal Highway, the Shah Alam Expressway, the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), the North-South Expressway Central Link and the Damansara-Puchong Highway.
