Ty Detmer

Ty Hubert Detmer (b. November 30, 1967 at San Marcos, Texas), is an American football player who starred at Brigham Young University before beginning his pro career. In college, Detmer was a starter as a freshman in 1988. As a four year starter in an offense based on passing, Detmer set 58 NCAA records. Among those records were the marks for competitions (958), attempts (1530), passing yards (15,031), and touchdowns (121). He and his coaches were and often still are criticized for keeping him in the game too long and running up the score during his college days at BYU. Additionally, Detmer was named an All American in both 1990 and 1991. He also won the Heisman Trophy after the 1990 season. Many believed he would turn pro after the 1990 season but Detmer returned to BYU where he finished third in voting for the Heisman in 1991. Detmer was believed to be too small to play quarterback effectively in the NFL and was passed over until the ninth round when he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers. In four seasons in Green Bay, Detmer threw just 21 passes. Detmer played for Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Cleveland before missing the 2000 season with an injury. He returned to the NFL in 2001 with the Detroit Lions. He currently plays for the Atlanta Falcons. In the NFL over 13 seasons, Detmer has played 54 games. He has 6,351 yards, 546 completions on 946 attempts and 34 touchdowns. Detmer, Ty Detmer, Ty Detmer
