The Twin Cities Marathon is an annual marathon in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. The race is called "The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America" The TCM was first ran in 1982. The race is held in the fall of the year ususally the first weekend in October on 26.2 mile course that startes near the Metrodome and ends at the State Capitol. There had been a marathon held in Minneapolis since 1963 called the Land of Lakes Marathon, in 1963 that ran thru the Minneapolis streets and parkways. The race was renamed City of Lakes in 1976 and moved to a four-lap course around Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet. In 1976 as well, St. Paul held its own marathon, the St. Paul Marathon, which followed a course around the city. Officals of the two races decided to create one marathon.
