Tuscarawas County is a county located in the state of Ohio. As of 2000, the population is 90,914. Its county seat is New Philadelphia6. Its name is an Indian word meaning "open mouth".

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,480 km² (571 mi²). 1,470 km² (568 mi²) of it is land and 10 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.68% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 90,914 people, 35,653 households, and 25,313 families residing in the county. The population density is 62/km² (160/mi²). There are 38,113 housing units at an average density of 26/km² (67/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.87% White, 0.73% Black or African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. 0.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 35,653 households out of which 32.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.10% are married couples living together, 9.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.00% are non-families. 24.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 3.01. In the county, the population is spread out with 25.40% under the age of 18, 8.00% from 18 to 24, 28.10% from 25 to 44, 23.60% from 45 to 64, and 15.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 95.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.40 males. The median income for a household in the county is $35,489, and the median income for a family is $41,677. Males have a median income of $31,963 versus $20,549 for females. The per capita income for the county is $17,276. 9.40% of the population and 7.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.20% of those under the age of 18 and 7.80% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
