Turna

Turňa (in Latin and Hungarian: Torna, in German: Tornau) is the name of a historic administrative county (comitatus) in southern eastern Slovakia and northern present-day Hungary from a time when Slovakia was part of the Kingdom of Hungary. Today in Slovakia Turňa is only an informal designation of the corresponding territory. The originally large county was one of the first counties in the Kingdom of Hungary, but gradually it was reduced to a territory corresponding to a small territory around the Turňa River. The capital of the county was the Turna Castle, later the town of Turňa nad Bodvou. In 1882, it was merged with the Abov county, see there for details. ___________________________________________________ Turňa is also the name of a small river in Slovakia at the border with Hungary. It is a tributary of the Bodva river.
