Tung Wah Group Of Hospitals

right The Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (東華三院), with a history of 134 years, is the oldest and the largest charitable organization in Hong Kong. At present, the organization offers Medical and Health Services, Education Services and Community Services to the community with a total of 194 service centres spreading over the territory of Hong Kong.

Board of Directors

The board of directors is essentially an honours list accorded to the most important donors in any particular year, and is seen by the local tabloid press as an illustration of up and coming socialites. All appointments to the board of directors of the group require the approval of the Government of Hong Kong.

Hospitals

Five hospitals are under the umbrella of the group, including Tung Wah Hospital, Kwong Wah Hospital, Tung Wah Eastern Hospital, TWGHs Wong Tai Sin Hospital and TWGHs Fung Yiu King Hospital, providing a total of 3,048 hospital beds (as of 31 December 2003), among which 600 are free of charge.

Schools

The group operates 52 schools in Hong Kong, including 18 secondary schools, 17 primary schools, 15 kindergartens and 2 schools for the mentally handicapped. Except for the kindergartens, the other schools are all directly funded by the government.
