Trygve Haavelmo

Trygve Magnus Haavelmo (13 December, 191126 July, 1999), born in Skedsmo, Norway, was an influential economist with main research interests centered on the fields of econometrics and economics theory. He received his Ph.D. in 1946 for his work on The Probability Approach in Econometrics 1944. He was a Professor in economics and statistics at the University of Oslo between 194879 and was the trade department head of division from 194748. Haavelmo acquires a prominent position in modern economics through his logical critic of a series of custom conceptions in mathematical analysis. In 1989, Haavelmo was awarded The Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel "for his clarification of the probability theory foundations of econometrics and his analyses of simultaneous economic structures."
