Treaty Of Brmsebro
The
Treaty of Brmsebro
of
August 13
,
1645
ended the
Torstenson War
between
Sweden
and
Denmark-Norway
, which had begun in
1643
. Negotiations for the treaty began in February the same year in the village of
Brmsebro
in
Blechingia
. The military strength of Sweden ultimately forced Denmark to give in to Swedish demands, ceding the Norwegian provinces of
Jemtia
and
Herdalia
as well as the
Baltic Sea
islands of
Gotland
and
sel
. In addition to this Sweden received the province of
Hallandia
for a period of 30 years. It was followed by the
Treaty of Roskilde
of
1658
, which forced Denmark-Norway to further concessions.
