Toyen

Toyen (Marie Cerminova) Czech (1902-1980) Artist and member of the surrealist movement. In the early 1920's she journeyed to Paris, and there became associated with Andre Breton. Upon returning to her native Prague, she helped found the Czech Surrealist Group. Forced underground during the Nazi occupation and Second World War, she fled to Paris before the establishment of a regime backed by Josef Stalin. She worked with Andre Breton and Benjamin Peret.
