Geography

Torren is located at 25.55N, 103.43W, and is a city in southwest border of the state of Coahuila and within the Lagoon region of the state. The border is marked by the Ro Nazas river and is also the divider between the city of Gmez Palacio in Durango and Torren. Despite its promising name of Lagoon, the region has a quite arid climate, with plants generally found in steppes and the animals commonly found in these areas. The cities of Torren, Gomez Palacio and Lerdo make up the Comarca Lagunera (Lagoon Shire), which is a basin within the Chihuahuan Desert that has a high economic activity. About the end of the twentieth century it started to become one of the most important cities in northern Mexico, certainly the most important one in central northern Mexico, besides perhaps Monterrey.

Sports

The city is among the few Northern Mexican cities that have a soccer team, the Santos Laguna (Saints). It also has a baseball team called the Vaqueros Laguna (Cowboys). And a basketball team.
