thymine (dict)

Thymine

Thymine (C5H6N2O2, 2-oxy-4-oxy-5-methylpyrimidine, 2,4-dioxy-5-methylpyrimidine, 5-methyluracil) is one of the bases of the nucleic acid found in DNA. It can base pair with adenine. Thymine combined with deoxyribose creates the nucleoside thymidine. Thymidine can be phosphorylated with one, two or three phosphoric acid groups, creating respectively TMP, TDP or TTP (thymidine mono- di- or triphosphate). In RNA thymine is replaced with uracil.
