Thompson is a borough located in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 299.

Geography

Thompson is located at 41°51'44" North, 75°30'57" West (41.862354, -75.515864). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 299 people, 115 households, and 77 families residing in the borough. The population density is 262.4/km² (674.2/mi²). There are 148 housing units at an average density of 129.9/km² (333.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 96.32% White, 0.00% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 3.34% from two or more races. 0.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 115 households out of which 33.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.4% are married couples living together, 8.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% are non-families. 25.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 3.09. In the borough the population is spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 103.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.6 males. The median income for a household in the borough is $26,250, and the median income for a family is $31,635. Males have a median income of $25,938 versus $20,357 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $11,896. 25.1% of the population and 15.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 26.9% of those under the age of 18 and 11.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
