Thomas Menino

Thomas Michael Menino (born December 27, 1942) is the current mayor of Boston, Massachusetts, first elected on November 2, 1993. He is the city's first Italian-American mayor. He succeeded Raymond Flynn. His nickname in the Boston Herald is "Mumbles Menino" because of his distinctive way of speaking. Born in Boston, Menino graduated with an associate's degree in business management from Chamberlayne Junior College in 1963 and a degree in community planning from the University of Massachusetts. He currently resides in Boston's Hyde Park neighborhood. On August 19, 2004, Menino was diagnosed with a colorectal disease known as Crohn's disease.
