Thirteen Days (2000) is a Hollywood film about the Cuban Missile Crisis, directed by Roger Donaldson and starring Kevin Costner, Bruce Greenwood, and Steven Culp. Dylan Baker and Michael Fairman also played key characters. The movie was based on the book . In 2001, the movie won a Golden Satellite Award for Best Film Editing, and Greenwood won for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Drama. US filming locations included Washington, DC, Newport, Rhode Island, the USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. (normally on display at Battleship Cove, Fall River, Massachusetts), after being towed to Narragansett Bay; some scenes were also filmed in the Philippines. New Line Cinema was one of the production companies. While shown in limited release in 2000, wide release did not occur until 2001, with a staggered release to various countries throughout most of the year. Christopher Lawford (son of Peter Lawford), who played a minor role, is a nephew of John F. Kennedy. Thirteen Days is the second movie about President Kennedy in which Kevin Costner has a lead role as someone other than Kennedy. The first was JFK.
