Thiagarajar College Of Engineering

Thiagarjar College of Engineering is the biggest Engineering college in South Tamilnadu, located in Tirupparamkunram, a serene township near the city of Madurai, India. It offers nine Undergraduate Programmes, and eleven Postgraduate and Doctoral Programmes in Engineering and Sciences. It was established in 1957 by the textile tycoon, Thiagaraja Chettiyar. He had a vision of building educational institutions that would engender the growth of the region; currently there are three main institutions running under his name - Thiagarjar Arts College, Thiagarjar Engineering College and Thiagajar School of Management. One of the notable features in his institutions are stone based constructions. Two of the more notable buildings of the college are the library and KS auditorium. The college has a good reputation for placements and for the last two years, placement levels have gone to 80% in the fields of Computer Science and Electrical/Electronics/Communication engineering. However, the number of students pursuing higher studies is fairly low for an institution of its size. The college is also known for its stern discipline and freedom given for students is generally low. There are a lot of restrictions in sitting near the trees and chatting on open grounds and stricter dress code is also enforced, in contrast to the more relaxed approach in progressive institutions both at home and abroad. The college is well managed by the Correspondent Mr. Kannan and the Principal Dr. V. Abhai Kumar, and the college has built up a good reputation among the core Scientific/Defence establishments in India. The college also has an earth station. Due to availability of the earth station and consequent high speed data transfer Honeywell has set up it's facility near the college. The number of such facilities and the companies would definitely grow in the future. Another notable feature of the college is the projects that are being done in colloboration with DRDO.
