The Green Album Weezer (2001), often referred to as The Green Album, is a 2001 album by the band Weezer, released May 15, 2001. The album was announced with the original title The Green Album, which was later changed to reflect the title of Weezer's first album (Weezer was the name of the band's 1994 debut album, which is commonly referred to as The Blue Album.) The album was seen as a rebirth for Weezer, following a 5 year hiatus from their 1996 album Pinkerton, which was a critical and commercial failure. Fans of the band generally have various opinons about whether the songwriting and short disc length of this recording are a step backward from Pinkerton, which has recently enjoyed critical acclaim, and is considered to be the band's most complex album. The Green Album brought Weezer renewed critical and commercial success, with the single's 'Hash Pipe' and 'Island in the Sun' receiving heavy airplay. The Green Album also saw the departure of longtime bassist Matt Sharp, who would end up suing the band before the release of their fourth album Maladroit, seeking compensation and songwriting credit for songs such as "Undone (The Sweater Song)," "El Scorcho" and "The Good Life." The new lineup for The Green Album consisted of: As of July 2002, the album had sold 1,360,361 copies. Track listing - "Don't Let Go" (2:59)
