The Great White Hope

The Great White Hope is a 1970 film which tells the fictionalized life story of boxing champion Jack Johnson (here called Jack Jefferson). It stars James Earl Jones, Jane Alexander, Chester Morris , Hal Holbrook, Beah Richards and Moses Gunn. The movie was adapted by Howard Sackler from his Pulitzer Prize-winning play. It was directed by Martin Ritt. It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (James Earl Jones) and Best Actress in a Leading Role (Jane Alexander).
