The Divine Secrets Of The Ya-ya Sisterhood

The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood is a 2002 film based on a novel of the same name by writer Rebecca Wells.

Plot

Playwright Siddalee Walker (Sandra Bullock) is on the verge of releasing her newest play. She has an interview with Time Magazine in which she expresses some opinions of her unhappy childhood. Her mother, Vivian Joan Abbott Walker (Ellen Burstyn), sees the article, and is extremely offended by it. She takes down all the pictures of Siddalee in her house, and indicates that she never wants to see her daughter again. She obstinately refuses to talk to Siddalee, even when Siddalee sends her a wedding invitation (Though the date of the wedding is cut out). Siddalee has difficulty understanding her mother's behavior until she is visited by three of her mother's friends: Teensy Melissa Whitman (Fionnula Flanagan), Necie Rose Kelleher (Shirley Knight), and Carro Eliza Benett (Maggie Smith). The four ladies had created the Ya-Ya Sisterhood in their youth as a token of their close friendship, and it had lasted through the years. They took her away from her Fiancee, Connor McGill (Angus McFadyen), and told her of her mother's troubled life. Through the assistance of the three friends, Siddalee was brought to an understanding of her mother's behavior, and her mother was brought to a greater understanding of herself and her daughter.
