) is the main
newspaper
for the city of
Louisville, Kentucky
, USA, and is the
de facto
state newspaper of
Kentucky
. The paper was founded in
1868
by
Henry Watterson
, and was bought by
Gannett
in
1987
. As of 2004, The C-J has received nine
Pulitzer Prizes
, and is read by about half a million people daily. The Courier-Journal also owns the
alternative
weekly paper
Velocity
.
