The Champ

The Champ is a 1931 movie that was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. It was written by Frances Marion, Leonard Praskins and Wanda Tuchock, and directed by King Vidor. The movie stars Wallace Beery (boxer) and Jackie Cooper (TJ), and tells the story of a washed up alcoholic boxer who tries to put his life together for the sake of his young son TJ. Beery won the Oscar for Best Actor, and Marion for Original Screenplay. The movie was remade in 1952 as The Clown. It was again remade in 1979 with its original title, The Champ and stared Jon Voight (boxer), Ricky Schroder (TJ) and Faye Dunaway. It was directed by Franco Zeffirelli, and was nominated for an Oscar. In February 2005 a scene in the film was voted as the third most 'Tear-Jerking moment' by the a UK poll.
