Tejano

Tex-Mex and Tejano is also a kind of music originating in Texas.
A Tejano is a person of Mexican heritage born and living in Texas. In 1821, about 4,000 Tejanos lived in Texas. In the 1820s, many Americans traveled to Texas. By 1830, the 30,000 Americans in Texas outnumbered the Tejanos six to one. The Americans in Texas were unwilling to adapt to Mexican laws, even though they were living in Mexican territory. Tensions between the Tejanos and Americans eventually lead to the Texas Revolution. Tejanos may variously consider themselves to be Hispanic, Mexian, Mexican American, mestizo, or more rarely Latino in ethnicity. Tejanos are often as hostile, or moreso, to indigent Mexican-American immigrants than are Anglo Americans, although in urban areas, Tejanos tend to be well integrated into both Hispanic and Anglo American communities.
