Ted Shawn

Ted Shawn (1891 to 1972) Founder of Modern dance in America. His dance retreat in Becket, Massachusetts, became the renowned Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. Worked with Ruth St. Denis, his wife of over 50 years. Although they lived together only 14 of those years, they danced on their 50th anniversary at the Casino in Saratoga Springs, New York. (Saratoga Springs is now the home of the National Museum of Dance, the world's only museum dedicated to professional dance.) Ted Shawn's contributions to modern dance in America--in the world--cannot be emphasized enough. A man of vision and passion, he explored regions of the human psyche and movement that had heretofore not been approached. Shawn, Ted Shawn, Ted
