Tamalpais-Homestead Valley is a census-designated place located in Marin County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 10,691.

Geography

-Homestead Valley is located at 37°53'19" North, 122°32'23" West (37.888526, -122.539609). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.9 km² (5.0 mi²). 12.9 km² (5.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.20% is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 10,691 people, 4,558 households, and 2,803 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 828.9/km² (2,145.8/mi²). There are 4,646 housing units at an average density of 360.2/km² (932.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 90.04% White, 0.94% African American, 0.21% Native American, 4.99% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.88% from other races, and 2.84% from two or more races. 3.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,558 households out of which 28.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% are married couples living together, 6.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.5% are non-families. 25.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.80. In the CDP the population is spread out with 20.1% under the age of 18, 3.4% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 35.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.1 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $102,094, and the median income for a family is $122,142. Males have a median income of $79,518 versus $60,058 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $56,913. 3.8% of the population and 1.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.1% of those under the age of 18 and 4.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line. Over the past decade, a number of single family homes in Homestead Valley have been demolished to make way for the construction of highly expensive houses.
