Takeo Kurita

   
Takeo Kurita (1889 - 1977) was a vice-Admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. Kurita commanded a cruiser division during the Battle of Midway (serving under Nobutake Kondo). He led a battleship division at the Battle of Guadalcanal, and substantial forces at the Battle of Philippine Sea. During the Battle of Leyte Gulf, his extremely outnumbered forces were mauled by the Americans, and his command decisions were heavily criticized.
