Svetozar Marović (Светозар Маровић; born March 31, 1955 in Kotor) is the first and the current President of Serbia and Montenegro and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Serbia and Montenegro. He was elected on March 7, 2003, and had previously been a lawyer. He became a member of the parliament of Montenegro in 1990, and has been its speaker on three occasions. He is co-founder of the pro-independence Montenegrin party Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro. In November 2003 he issued on behalf of his country an apology to Croatia for atrocities committed during the war and the Croatian president Stjepan Mesić issued an apology on behalf of his country on that day.
