Strigoi

In Romanian mythology, strigoi (same form both singular and plural) are the evil souls of the dead rising from the tombs during the night to haunt the neighbourhood. The name is derived from "a striga", which means in Romanian "to yell", cognate with Italian "strega", which means "witch", and descended from the Latin word strix, for a shrieking vampiric bird. Strigoi vii is a live vampire witch. Strigoi mort is a dead (undead) vampire.
