Sterope

In Greek mythology, Sterope was the name of several individuals:
  1. Sterope was the daughter of Pleuron and Xanthippe.
  2. Sterope was the daughter of Porthaon and Euryte. She is sometimes said to be the mother of the Sirens by Achelous.
  3. Sterope (or Asterope) was one of the Pleiades and, by Ares, the mother of Oenomaus, King of Pisa. She is either wife or mother of Oenomaus.
  4. Sterope was daughter of Cepheus. She received a lock of Medusa's hair from Heracles to protect her hometown, Tegea from attack, thus winning Heracles' friendship for her father.
  5. Sterope was also the daughter of Acastus and either Astydameia or Hippolyte.
  6. Sterope was one of the horses of Helios.
  7. Sterope was one of the Maenads.
Not to be confused with Steropes, one of the Cyclopes.
