Stark County is a county located in the state of Illinois. As of 2000, the population is 6,332. Its county seat is Toulon, Illinois ⁶.

Geography

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 6,332 people, 2,525 households, and 1,764 families residing in the county. The population density is 8/km² (22/mi²). There are 2,725 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (10/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.63% White, 0.06% Black or African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races. 0.85% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,525 households out of which 30.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.00% are married couples living together, 7.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.10% are non-families. 27.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 3.00. In the county the population is spread out with 25.10% under the age of 18, 6.80% from 18 to 24, 25.20% from 25 to 44, 23.70% from 45 to 64, and 19.20% who are 65 years of age or older.
