Stand By Me

Stand By Me is a 1986 film directed by Rob Reiner; the title comes from a song with the same title by Ben E. King and is based on the novella The Body by Stephen King. Stand By Me is a coming of age film set in the 1950s. The four main characters, Gordie Lachance and his three friends Chris Chambers, Teddy Duchamp, and Vern Tessio, are twelve-year-old boys who set out on a cross-country trek to see the body of a missing kid who was hit by a train, found on the tracks by one of their older brothers. The film stars Wil Wheaton as Gordie LaChance, River Phoenix as Chris Chambers, Corey Feldman as Teddy DuChamp, Jerry O'Connell as Vern Tessio, and Kiefer Sutherland as Ace Merrill, and Richard Dreyfuss as the narrator, a grown-up Gordie. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Writing Adapted Screenplay and Best Director and Best Motion Picture - Drama at the 1987 Golden Globe awards.
