St Columb MajorSt Columb Major (Cornish: Sen Kolomm Veur) is a town in Cornwall, England, to the west of Wadebridge and south of Newquay. It has a large church (dedicated to Saint Columba) with a four tier tower and a wide through arch. Twice a year, the town plays host to a once common medieval game, but which is now only played in St Columb and St Ives; Hurling the Silver Ball. It is played on Shrove Tuesday, and then again on the Saturday eleven days later. The game involves two teams of several hundred people (the 'townsmen' and the 'countrymen') who endeavour to carry a silver ball made of apple wood through goals set two miles apart. People The Town is famous as the birth place of Henry Jenner who is considered to be the Father of the Cornish Language revival. Other famous people associated with this town are....
