Springer-verlag

The Springer-Verlag (pronounced SHPRING er FAIR lahk) was a worldwide publishing company base in Germany. Since 2004 it is part of Springer Science and Business Media.

History

The company was founded in 1842 by Julius Springer in Berlin. At first it mainly published political and philosophical works. In 1968 the Springer publishing house became infamous among Germany's students for portraying them in a bad light during the German student movement. Springer's tabloid Bild-Zeitung described Rudi Dutschke, an important leader of the movement, as "public enemy number one" and a few days later he was shot by a Neo-Nazi.
