Spandau Citadel

The Spandau Citadel is the oldest remaining structure in Berlin. The fortress was built in the 16th century, but the main tower dates back to about the 12th century. Built to protect the city of Spandau, the Citadel has seen quite a few different uses, including an ammunitions factory during the Thirty Years War and a poison gas respository during WWII. In recent years it has been used as a museum and a construction school, and is a popular tourist spot.
