) in northern
Somalia
, and was formerly part of the
British Somaliland
protectorate
. Its capital is
Laascaanood
. It is bordered by
Ethiopia
and the Somalian regions of
Togdheer
,
Sanaag
,
Bari
and
Nugaal
. Sool is claimed by the two self-proclaimed but internationally-unrecognized states of
Somaliland
and
Puntland
. Along with
Sanaag
, Sool has been a bone of contention between Somaliland and
Puntland
.
