Singles (Movie)

Singles (1992) is a film set in in Seattle, Washington (in the north western USA), written and directed by Cameron Crowe. Starring Bridget Fonda and Campbell Scott, as well as Matt Dillon and Bill Pullman in smaller roles, it attempted to encapsulate the grunge movement in the city. It centres around the lives of a group of young people living in an apartment block, and is divided into chapters. The movie included music (and cameos) from key bands from the Seattle music scene of the time, such as Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and grunge favorite, Tad Doyle (lead vocalist of the Seattle bands Tad and Hog Molly). The soundtrack is sometimes considered to have helped open the door to the explosive popularity of Seattle grunge music in the early 1990's, although Nirvana had their main success a year earlier with the multiplatinum record Nevermind. Ironically Nirvana was the only major grunge band of the time to not appear on the soundtrack.
