Sims Class Destroyer

The Sims class consisted of 12 destroyers in the United States Navy, built in seven various shipyards, and commissioned in 1939 and 1940. Those that survived World War II were used in the Bikini Atoll nuclear tests. No ship of this class saw service after 1948. General Characteristics:
  • Displacement: 1570 tons
  • Length: 347'11"
  • Beam: 35'7"
  • Draft: 17'4"
  • Speed: 37 knots
  • Armament: 4 5"/38, 2x4 21" torpedo tubes
  • Complement: 251
  • High-pressure super-heated boilers, geared turbines with twin screws, 50,000 h.p.
