Sesia

Sesia is a river in north-western Italy, tributary to the river Po. Its source is near the Monte Rosa and the border with Switzerland. It flows through the Alpine valley Valsesia and the towns Borgosesia and Vercelli. The Sesia flows into the river Po near Casale Monferrato.

Dpartement de la Sesia

Sesia is also the name of a dpartement of the First French Empire in present Italy, named after the river Sesia. It was formed in 1802, when Napoleon Bonaparte occupied the Kingdom of Sardinia. Its capital was Vercelli. It was divided into the arrondissements of Vercelli, Biella and Santhi. It was disbanded after the defeat of Napoleon in 1814. Its territory is presently divided over the Italian provinces Vercelli and Biella.
