Sergei Gonchar

Sergei Gonchar (born April 13, 1974) is a Russian ice hockey player who currently plays with the Boston Bruins, although he spent almost his entire career with the Washington Capitals. He is considered one of the best offensive defensemen in the NHL today and was a star on Washington's blue line. After a disappointing 2003-04 season, the Capitals began to trade many of their highest paid players. In February, the Toronto media and Maple Leaf fans speculated that Gonchar would be traded to Toronto. However, in the end he was sent to the Boston Bruins for a prospect and two draft picks.
