Sequim, WashingtonSequim is a city located in Clallam County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,334. Sequim is pronounced "skwim". The e is silent. History Sequim was officially incorporated on October 31, 1913. Geography is located at 48°4'41" North, 123°6'5" West (48.078002, -123.101427). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.7 km² (5.3 mi²). 13.7 km² (5.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 4,334 people, 2,163 households, and 1,111 families residing in the city. The population density is 316.9/km² (820.6/mi²). There are 2,424 housing units at an average density of 177.3/km² (459.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 93.91% White, 0.30% African American, 1.15% Native American, 1.75% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.92% from other races, and 1.87% from two or more races. 2.86% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,163 households out of which 15.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.1% are married couples living together, 9.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 48.6% are non-families. 44.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 30.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.90 and the average family size is 2.55. In the city the population is spread out with 15.3% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 15.2% from 25 to 44, 19.5% from 45 to 64, and 44.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 59 years. For every 100 females there are 73.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 68.9 males. The median income for a household in the city is $27,880, and the median income for a family is $35,652. Males have a median income of $35,160 versus $20,347 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,253. 13.9% of the population and 9.8% of families are below the poverty line.
