Seabrook, New Hampshire

Seabrook is a town located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 7,934. Located at the southern end of the coast of New Hampshire on the border with Massachusetts, Seabrook is noted as the location of the Seabrook Nuclear Power Station.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 24.9 km² (9.6 mi²). 22.9 km² (8.9 mi²) of it is land and 1.9 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 7.80% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 7,934 people, 3,425 households, and 2,161 families residing in the town. The population density is 345.7/km² (895.0/mi²). There are 4,066 housing units at an average density of 177.2/km² (458.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.52% White, 0.34% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 0.98% from two or more races. 0.86% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 3,425 households out of which 24.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% are married couples living together, 10.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.9% are non-families. 29.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.85. In the town the population is spread out with 20.5% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.4 males. The median income for a household in the town is $42,874, and the median income for a family is $47,718. Males have a median income of $36,560 versus $27,143 for females. The per capita income for the town is $20,992. 8.6% of the population and 6.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.9% of those under the age of 18 and 9.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
