ScriboniaScribonia (d. AD 16) was the daughter of Marcus Scribonius Drusus Libo and Cornelia, the granddaughter of Pompey the Great and Lucius Cornelius Sulla. Her brother of the same name was consul and died in 34 BC. Her first marriage was to a consul, Publius Cornelius Scipio. They had a daughter Cornelia Scipio. In 40 BC Octavian, who was younger than her, married her to cement a political alliance with her great-uncle Sextus Pompeius. Their daughter Julia Caesaris was born in 38 BC, a few days before their divorce. Their marriage had not been a happy one; Octavian felt she nagged him too much and disliked that she used him to threaten others. She never remarried. When her daughter was sent into exile for prodigious adultery she accompanied her, feeling guilty that she had evidently not been a sufficient role model for Julia to follow. She died in exile; many modern historians consider her an ideal example of the Roman matron.
