Science Museum Of MinnesotaThe Science Museum of Minnesota is is a private, nonprofit institution governed by a board of trustees, staffed by over 500 employees and over 1,600 volunteers located in the state's capital city of Saint Paul which focuses on topics in technology and natural history. In 1999, the museum moved from its old complex to a modern one on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. The new building features a 3D cinema screen and a dual-screen IMAX/Omnimax theater, with both a wall screen for IMAX films, and a rotatable dome for viewing Omnifilms. The counterweights were so massive that they had to be put in place before the rest of the building. Permanent exhibits include galleries devoted to the Mississippi River, the human body, the history of the collections and an object-identification service, physics and experiments, and dinosaurs and other fossils, and as of 2004, an outdoor exhibit and garden featuring a minigolf course. There is also a gallery for traveling exhibits, some of which are developed by the museum workshops. The museum acquired the collection of the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices when its founder Bob McCoy retired from the job in 2002.
