Saxe-meiningen

The Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen was one of the Saxon Duchies held by the Ernestine line of the Wettin Dynasty. Established in the 17th century, the Saxe-Meiningen line lasted, without much distinction, until the end of the monarchies in 1918. The state of Saxe-Meiningen was merged into the new state of Thuringia in 1920. The capital of Saxe-Meiningen was Meiningen; it had an area of 2,468 km and a population of 269,000 (1905).
