Settlements and geographic areas The population is 2,493(2001) and the area is 72.11 km. The municipality the Northern portion of the island of Flores. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on all sides except South, where is borders Lajes das Flores to the south; Corvo is visible from the North coast. Santa Cruz has a few schools, a lyceum, a gymnasium, churches and squares (Praas) The village was founded in 1548.
