Sanjaya

Sanjaya (or Sanjay in modern Hindi), is a character from the epic Mahabharata which contains the Bhagavad Gita. In this story of warring families, the father of the Kaurava side is the blind king Dhritarashtra. Sanjaya, his chariot driver, is the person who tells him of the battlefield action. Sanjaya has the ability to see the war at a distance. In the epic, the account of the battle of Kurukshetra, including the Bhagavad Gita, is narrated by him. In the Bhagavad Gita, passages will often start with the words : "Sanjaya uvaacha ...." This means :"Sanjaya said ... ".
