Sm-64 Navaho
The
SM-64 Navaho
was the last-built in a line of
intermediate-range ballistic missiles
designed by
North American Aviation
in the late
1950s
for the
U.S. Air Force
. Intended to have greater range than other IRBMs, it was ultimately cancelled after four failed launches caused its sponsors to shift funding to the more promising
SM-62 Snark
and the
intercontinental ballistic missiles
Atlas
and
Titan
. The missile is named after the
Navajo Nation
.
