Royal Ordnance L7

Royal Ordnance L7 is the basic model of Britain's most successful tank gun. The L7 was a 105 mm rifled gun designed for use in armored fighting vehicles. Developed by Britain's Royal Ordnance to equip British tanks of the post war (Cold War) period. The British were very fond of this weapon and maintained it until it was superceded by the L11 series 120 mm rifled tank gun. Even then it was retained by for some Centurion AVRE vehicles. A rifled weapon known for accuracy, although the 105 mm shell was not as large as some competitors. It was a widely used piece of ordnance, a success not only for British vehicles, but also abroad, where it was purchased for installation in a variety of international tank designs. This weapon can be found today as standard or retrofitted equipment on a wide variety of tanks developed during the Cold War.
