Geography Rockford is located at 35°50'21" North, 83°56'32" West (35.839243, -83.942221). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.0 km² (3.1 mi²). 8.0 km² (3.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.65% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 798 people, 317 households, and 245 families residing in the city. The population density is 100.0/km² (259.2/mi²). There are 362 housing units at an average density of 45.4/km² (117.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.74% White, 1.13% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.63% from two or more races. 0.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 317 households out of which 32.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.1% are married couples living together, 11.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.4% are non-families. 18.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 2.84. In the city the population is spread out with 22.8% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.3 males. The median income for a household in the city is $43,816, and the median income for a family is $50,074. Males have a median income of $34,583 versus $26,250 for females.
