Robert Leckie (? - 2001) was an American author of popular books on the military history of the United States. As a young man, he served in the 1st Marine Division during World War II. His experiences as a machine gunner at Guadalcanal greatly influenced his outlook. He continues to be a popular author, with over thirty-five works, many of which continue to be reprinted. He used a direct and powerful style in describing context and battle actions. In spite or because of his popularity he has been criticized be some historians as lacking rigor (he uses almost no footnotes). He has also been tagged as politically incorrect for his portrayal of America's enemies and Native Americans.
