Richmond, Ontario

Richmond, Ontario is a quiet town situated south-west of Stittsville, east of Munster and north of North Gower. The town's main shopping centre is called the Richmond Plaza with stores such as Value Mart, The LCBO, Home Hardware, and Dollarrific. Movie rental places in Richmond include Townhouse Video and Movies and more.
      
Sports in Richmond include soccer, softball, curling, hockey, and euchre, among others. The Rideau Trail runs through Richmond. The Ottawa- Carleton Catholic School Board offers an elementary school named St. Philip and a secondary school in the neighbouring town of Stittsville. The public Ottawa-Carleton District School Board offers an elementary school and a high school named South Carleton High School. The middle school is in the neighbouring town. The town mascot is a fox, after the fox with rabies who bit the Duke of Richmond and killed him. The town was the first established outpost in the area when the English moved into the area. The town of Richmond has many historical buildings such as St. Philip's Church which is the oldest church in the Catholic Archdiocese of Ottawa. Richmond was established in 1818 as a military settlement, on the Jock River, a tributary of the Rideau River. It was incorporated as a village in 1850 and was annexed by Goulbourn Township in 1974. It is now within the City of Ottawa, since January 1, 2000. Population: (2001 Census) 3,287 (agg. 3,596)
